When photographer Carol Lahnum first picked up a camera in the late 70’s little did she know that her love of photography would become a life-long endeavor. Born in Maine, Carol was the typical military brat, following her family thru Texas and California then settling in Alaska. After a few college courses and many nights in the darkroom editing film she went digital. Self taught for many years as a portrait photographer, it wasn’t but a few years ago that a few mentors decided to take her under their wings to help perfect her skills.

As the mother of very active young adults, teens and now a 3 year old, her focus was Weddings, High School Senior portraits, and sports photography. She is often seen teaching others who are just as passionate about learning photography as her. As fate would have it she soon moved from the hustle and bustle of Anchorage to Juneau; a small rainforest and an Alaskan city that has more animals than people. With new sights to be seen, Carol shifted her focus from people to landscape and wildlife.

Because of her time spent in many ill lite ice rinks and very fast hockey action, when it came time to capture fast moving animals or the northern lights her photography skills came naturally. Juneau brings a variety of new adventures and she is eager to share in her skill and knowledge of the land. Her desire to focus on landscape photography presents her with a new level of excitement and eagerness to get out in the field to create. Her latest work on the Juneau Mendenhall Ice Caves can be seen all over the world. If you don’t see her waiting for killer whales, hovering at the docks looking for harbor seals or sea lions, camera pointed at the sky and trees for eagles, porcupines or bears, you’ll find her in near the glaciers edge, taking in all that Alaska has to offer.
